Frequently asked questions

What's a good MPG for 2026?

For a gas sedan, 32+ combined is considered efficient. For SUVs, 28+. Hybrids typically reach 45–55 combined. EVs report MPGe, not MPG — treat those separately.

Why does yearly fuel cost differ from MPG?

Vehicles that require premium fuel or diesel pay a higher price per gallon, so their yearly cost is higher even at the same MPG. The sortable table above prices each vehicle at its correct fuel grade.

Is MPGe comparable to MPG?

Not directly. MPGe converts kWh to a 'gallon equivalent' at 33.7 kWh/gal — useful for federal ratings, but the yearly cost column above uses real electricity prices for a fairer money comparison.
